Oborevwori Orders Julius Berger To Repair Washed-Out East-West Road At Agbarho

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed Julius Berger Nigeria Plc to immediately commence remedial works on the washed-out section of the East-West Road at Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this yesterday in a statement issued in Asaba.

Aniagwu said the intervention followed the collapse of part of the Federal Government-owned highway, which has caused hardship for motorists, residents, traders and other road users along the busy corridor.

According to him, the affected section of the road collapsed following strong erosion triggered by heavy rainfall, prompting the governor to direct Julius Berger to undertake immediate remedial works.

He said although the East-West Road remained a Federal Government responsibility, Oborevwori was concerned about the impact of the damage on Deltans and other Nigerians who depend on the highway.

Aniagwu explained that the intervention reflected the administration’s commitment to keeping critical infrastructure functional, irrespective of whether such infrastructure falls under state or federal jurisdiction.

He said the East-West Road was a major economic artery linking communities and facilitating the movement of people, agricultural produce, goods and services across the Niger Delta.

The commissioner noted that prolonged disruption of the route could have serious consequences for commuters, transport operators, traders and businesses dependent on the corridor.

He assured motorists that the intervention would help ease the difficulties being experienced and restore smoother traffic flow on the affected stretch.

Aniagwu added that the state government would continue to collaborate with relevant Federal Government agencies and private-sector partners to address infrastructure challenges capable of disrupting economic activities and affecting residents’ wellbeing.

He urged motorists and other road users to exercise caution around the affected section while remedial works are ongoing.
